‘T20 Is Business For Some, But I Don’t See Test Cricket Dying’

‘T20 is business for some, but I don’t see Test cricket dying’: Ravi Shastri, a former head coach of India’s cricket team, suggested in July that only the top six teams should be allowed to compete in cricket’s Test matches, while the rest of the world should be allowed to play white-ball cricket instead.

Ben Stokes, the captain of the England test team, provided an answer to Shastri’s claims by stating that he doesn’t think test cricket will ever die out, describing it as the “pinnacle format of the sport.” Stokes also stated that T20 cricket is “a business for some people.”

Statements

“Regarding Shastri’s points of view, the answer is yes, to a certain extent. But in addition to that, no. I think you should take a look at how franchise cricket is progressing these days. A significant number of franchises around the world currently operate several teams in a variety of nations and regions, including India, the Caribbean Premier League, and South Africa.

You can almost say that Twenty20 Cricket is becoming a business for some people because you see people having numerous franchise teams.

“It’s clear that this is a positive development for the game as a whole when things like that occur. There are a great deal more opportunities available to players now than there were fifteen years ago in terms of life outside of cricket, security, and everything else along those lines. The amount of money that is involved in sports now, particularly in cricket and the Twenty20 format, is obviously much higher than it was 15–20 years ago.

“A career as a professional athlete only lasts for a very brief amount of time. “Not only do you want to be playing your best cricket for as long as you possibly can, but you also have to think about the future because once you stop playing cricket, that could be it,” said Stokes in a select virtual media interaction prior to the release of his documentary Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes. Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes will be available on Netflix on December 14.

T20

Stokes is hopeful about the future of test cricket despite the current trend in the cricketing globe toward an increase in the number of Twenty20 matches. “I don’t see any possibility of test cricket disappearing at all. I consider myself to be a significant advocate for the format. The Test matches are the purest form of cricket and represent its highest level of competition. The cricket test match format will never catch on in my opinion.

Test match cricket is still, in my opinion, the pinnacle of cricket, despite the fact that Twenty20 cricket has altered the landscape of the sport. I am aware that a few of the most prominent sports players have the same sentiments. It’s almost as if we have a responsibility right now to make sure that we keep spreading the word that test cricket isn’t over and done with, because in our opinion, it most definitely isn’t. At least, that’s how it feels to me. (IANS)
